The Association of Chinese Soil and Plant Scientists in North America (ACSPSNA) was founded in 1981 history"  under the auspices of American Society of Agronomy (ASA). It currently has over three hundred (>300) active members of students, scientists, professors, and agricultural and industrial professionals from the U.S. and Canada. The association has the consistent goal to cultivate collaborations, further communications, and foster innovations among Chinese-origin soil and plant scientists in North America on agricultural research, education, and extension.

About the ACSPSNA founder Dr. HH Cheng

HH Cheng
The Association of Chinese Soil and Plant Scientists in North America was founded in 1981 by Dr. Hwei-Hsien (HH) Cheng, Professor of Soil Chemistry at Washington State University at the time. Dr. Cheng is widely known for his research on carbon and nitrogen cycling in soils, transformations of natural and anthropogenic chemicals in soil, water quality, precision agriculture, and agricultural sustainability. He was the Chairperson of Department of Soil Science (now Soil, Water, and Climate), University of Minnesota from 1989 until his retirement in 2001. Dr. Cheng was president of the Soil Science Society of America (SSSA) in 1996 and President of the American Society of Agronomy (ASA) in 2000. He was honored by the University of Minnesota with an honorary LLD degree in 2004. Dr. Cheng passed away on January 24, 2021 in St. Paul, MN at the age of 88.
